The following is a copy of a letter sent to Palmers Green Residents regarding the take over:

Dear Neighbours,

The Parliamentary Boundaries Commission has proposed that Palmers Green ward should be moved from the Enfield/Southgate constituency to Edmonton. The map attached illustrates the extent of this proposal.

ARE YOU AGAINST THIS PROPOSAL? THEN CONTINUE TO READ ON:

In order to convince the Boundaries Commission to change its plans it is necessary to submit as many letters as possible from us with our objections to these proposals. PGRA strongly urges you to send your comments by no later than Friday 26th October 2001 to: -

The Secretary
The Boundary Commission for England
PO BOX 31060
LONDON SW1V 2FF
E-mail: bcomm.england@ons.gov.uk

We list below some of the reasons raised so far opposing this plan. You are free to use any or all of these reasons and encouraged to provide any other views you feel to be relevant and appropriate.

Historically (since 1881) Palmers Green has been linked to Southgate.

If the principal reason for the change is population imbalance how does the Commission feel certain of its statistics ahead of the findings of the recent National Census count?

The Edmonton Constituency will stretch from Waltham Forest to Barnet.

What will become of the cultural and social links with Enfield, Southgate and Winchmore Hill?

What will happen to the natural links in the transport system to Southgate, Winchmore Hill and Enfield?

Will our postcode change from N13 to N18?

Will the proposed changes affect the value of our properties?

Will our insurance premiums rise in relation to the geographical boundary now considered?

The Green Lanes Business Association invited Mr Stephen Twigg MP to attend a meeting at 8.00pm on Thursday 18th October at the Pilgrims Suite Hazelwood Lane N13. You are all invited to attend and to air your views.

On 7th November, at the Enfield Civic Centre, a Barrister appointed to preside over a public enquiry panel will accept verbal views and opinions from anyone who wants to be heard on this issue. This session will last all day from 8:30am till late and a local historian will also be in attendance to add further weight to the argument opposing this move.

Remember that time is critical. If you do not wish to see our area transferred to the Edmonton Constituency you must act NOW. It is imperative that we all write expressing our views to the Boundaries Commission. Once the decision to change the boundary is reached it will become irreversible.

Regards

S. Leonidas
Chairman PALMERS GREEN RESIDENTS (ASSOCIATION) { P G R A }
