Apologies from Annie Goldie and David Abrahams

This first meeting intended to cover three items:

1. Compilation of figures arising from our own survey
2. Correspondence with members of Enfield Council
3. Proposal to set up a Residents Association primarily for the East side of Green Lanes

Mal invited June Rapacioli, a long-term campaigner against the Council, to attend this session. June expressed her support to our group and advised that the Council was involved in a meeting to discuss a MORI presentation which considered plans bestowing upon the Cabinet overriding 'super' powers by virtue of the Local Government Act 2000 in carrying out its mandate.

The representatives present were entrusted with the task of surveying their road/street through a house to house canvassing and obtaining signatures from households confirming their objection or favour to the CPZ Scheme as proposed recently by Enfield Council for the Palmers Green Area. The results have been very conclusive. The attached table confirms the findings of our unbiased survey, which points to a unanimous opposition to this plan. Devonshire Road was not polled, as it was obvious from the meeting of 9th May, there was a significant majority of residents in favour of CPZ. A few roads were not completed and representatives were given until the Saturday 19th May to provide the remainder of their figures.

S. Leonidas read a number of e-mails covering correspondence with Ian Hastings, Cllr Bambos Charalambous and Cllr Betty Costello in general in pursuance of a new public meeting with all Officers, councillors and decision-makers in attendance. The group agreed as to the content of the response we should give to Ian Hastings' last reply.

It was agreed that a residents association should be set-up composed of at least one representative (but hopefully 2 representatives) from the roads mainly to the east of Green Lanes. This suggestion was based on the fact that the West Side of Green lanes was represented by the Fox Lane Residents' Association. Members in attendance who reside on the West Side expressed a desire to join this group. S. Leonidas confirmed that no one would be forced to join or leave this group but that it would be sensible to forge an allegiance with the Fox Lane Residents Association. When attempting to nominate the members who would act as the representative for their road, and acknowledging that not all streets were represented in this meeting, G. Humphreys impressed that it would be far more rewarding to select this panel when the next public meeting was called. This was agreed.
